Over the extended weekend, I decided to indulge in a suspense movie to while away some time. Although I’m not an avid movie-goer and struggle to remain seated for 2-3 hours, I occasionally fast-forward through movies to catch the highlights.
I had heard that the Marathi film “Aapla Manas” was worth a watch. Being unacquainted with the language has never deterred me from enjoying a film, so there I was. True to form, I found myself multitasking—browsing on my iPad, writing articles, and reading a book, only casting occasional glances at the screen. However, halfway through, the movie had me captivated. Despite being a suspense, it wasn’t hard to deduce that the apparent suspects were red herrings. The storytelling was compelling, offering insightful commentary on caring for elderly parents. I found the movie quite engaging; it’s certainly worth a one-time watch. Refreshingly devoid of any hidden political motives, it felt like a breath of fresh air. Nana Patekar, in a stellar double role, was, as always, exceptional, truly the highlight of the film.
So, if you’re in search of something entertaining for a Friday or Saturday evening, “Aapla Manas” is a commendable choice. Striking a perfect balance, it’s neither overly intense nor disappointingly simplistic—simply enjoyable.
