Wow, this question is akin to opening Pandora’s box. What irks me the most is when people fail to recognize that everyone is uniquely different. If you desire acceptance for your quirks, you must extend the same courtesy to others. Yet, this reciprocity often goes unfulfilled, rendering such expectations unrealistic and frustrating. There’s an aspect of inherent nature that remains steadfast and unchangeable. A profound Sanskrit saying encapsulates this idea beautifully: किं जीर्णतृणमत्ति मानमहतामग्रेसरः केसरी। (kiṃ jīrṇatṛṇamatti mānamahatāmagresaraḥ kesarī।), which means, “A lion, even in its old age or when famished, will never consume grass, for it contradicts its very nature.” This illustrates the concept of staying true to one’s innate character, no matter the circumstances. However, this doesn’t imply that you cannot refine or alter certain aspects of your nature for your betterment.
Another crucial aspect is respecting privacy and people’s boundaries. Refrain from intruding into matters that do not concern you! Watch out for my weekly Sanskrit blog post (with English Translation) on the consequences of intruding into affairs that are not your concern.
