Reflecting on the question of what I’d like named after me, my thoughts gravitate towards a star, much like Dhruva. For those unfamiliar, Dhruva’s tale is a poignant narrative from Puranic lore. A young prince, overlooked by his father in favor of another son from a second wife, Dhruva seeks the solace and love he craves from the divine. Venturing into the forest, he undertakes severe penance, eventually earning a divine audience. The Lord not only blesses him but also decrees that Dhruva will forever gleam as a star in the heavens, beyond the reach of earthly rebirths. This star, known as the “Pole Star” in English, is revered as Dhruva mandala. This celestial honor is exquisitely described in the Sanskrit text “Sriman Narayaneeyam”: “राज्यं चिरं समनुभूय भजस्व भूयः सर्वोत्तरं ध्रुवपदं विनिवृत्तिहीनम्।” (“rājyaṃ ciraṃ samanubhūya bhajasva bhūyaḥ sarvottaraṃ dhruvapadaṃ vinivṛttihīnam।”) – “You shall reign as a revered king and ultimately shine as an eternal star.”
I dream of leaving behind a legacy as a bright star in the sky, representing hard work and blessings!
