Movie Review – Manujummel Boys!

I was hesitant to write a review for this Malayalam movie because there are already so many reviews out there. People have raved about it, which has led to its popularity, and here I am writing a review for something that is now common knowledge. But hey, I never said I would review only new movies. I planned to write reviews for the movies I watch, which is not many, trust me. This long weekend, I had an evening free to watch a movie, so I decided on “Manjummel Boys” after hearing good things about it. Of course, I read the plot first because I don’t want to watch tragedies. I realized the film had a positive ending.

Like all other reviews mention, the first half was boring. It only got interesting after a pivotal incident. A group of college friends goes on a trip to Kodaikanal, wanders into a forbidden area, and one of them accidentally falls into a deep and narrow pit. They don’t realize the depth of the pit initially. They seek help from locals and the police upon realizing their friend is still alive. Finally, after two days, they decide to send a trained person to retrieve their friend, but the trained person chickens out, prompting one of the friends to volunteer. The rest of the film deals with the challenges they face and how they eventually succeed in rescuing their friend.

The actors did a fine job of displaying their emotions. What amazed me was that this was a real incident that had been made into a movie. The film also had a good message: do not wander into areas marked as prohibited for the public. There is a reason for that warning. We may all think we are invincible, especially when young, but being humble and law-abiding always pays off. Overall, I enjoyed the movie.
