What quality do you value most in a friend?

Well, luckily for us, the famous philosopher poet BrtRhari, in his nItishataka, has penned a verse describing the qualities of a good friend –

पापान्निवारयति योजयते हिताय गुह्यं निगूहति गुणान् प्रकटीकरोति।

आपद्गतं च न जहाति ददाति काले सन्मित्रलक्षणमिदं प्रवदन्ति सन्तः॥

Translation – Wise and noble individuals have stated that a true friend demonstrates certain qualities: they stop us from committing wrongdoings, encourage us to pursue beneficial actions, keep our secrets, highlight our virtues, stand by us during tough times, and provide help whenever we need it.
