In an era where self-care is the mantra for many, it’s essential to remember that true self-care encompasses not just physical health but also mental well-being and a holistic way of living. This profound verse from the Yaksha Prashna in the Mahabharata beautifully encapsulates the essence of a balanced life:
मनो यम्य न शोचन्ति सन्धिस्सद्भिर् न जीर्यते।
“When you control your mind, there is no cause for sorrow; association with saints never decays.”
कामं हित्वार्थवान् भवति लोभं हित्वा सुखी भवेत।
“You become truly wealthy if you let go of your desires, and you’ll be happy if you abandon greed.”
Now, I realize I might sound like a sage (or Yudhistira) from a hundred years ago, always doling out wisdom. I know these principles can be challenging to follow. However, continually reading such verses profoundly impacts our way of thinking and helps us mature in our approach to life.
