I watched the movie Kalki 2898 AD yesterday, and I was absolutely blown away by its brilliance and sheer awesomeness. I loved every moment of it; it was time well spent. I have to commend the Telugu movie industry for their impressive track record. The number of blockbusters they’ve produced in the last five years is mind-boggling. These aren’t just hits because of star power but because of their compelling storylines.
This movie is no exception, drawing from the epic Mahabharata. A good understanding of the epic certainly enhances the viewing experience. The star cast was phenomenal, featuring Amitabh Bachchan, Shobana, Kamal Haasan, Prabhas, and Deepika Padukone in main roles, with cameos by Dulquer Salmaan, Vijay Deverakonda, Rajamouli, and Ram Gopal Varma, to name a few.
Amitabh as Ashwatthama was a standout, nailing his role perfectly. In fact, everyone did justice to their characters. The first half could have been trimmed by about 20 minutes to avoid dragging, but overall, it was a great watch. This is just the first part, and I can’t wait for the second. As usual, there was the familiar glorification of Karna over Arjuna, a common theme among the general audience. However, if you read the original epic, you’ll understand the true nature of Karna.
Overall, it was a fantastic watch, so definitely go for it, makkale!
