संस्कृते कथं शंस्यते इति सर्वैः शिक्षणीयम् । अद्य काचिद्वाक् वीक्षिता – पक्ष्मलदृश् – पक्ष्मले दृशौ यस्याः सा इति बहुव्रीहिः। यस्याः पक्ष्म सुन्दरमस्ति तादृशी स्त्रीति। नन्वियं सुन्दरतायाः चिह्नम्। सुन्दरी इत्यस्यापेक्षया पक्ष्मलदृगिति पदं शोभते। परमीदृक्पदमुपयोक्तुं भाषाज्ञानमनिवार्यम्। सुभ्रूः इत्यपि पूर्वं ज्ञातं मया। शोभने भ्रुवौ यस्याः सा। बाल्यकाले मया चिन्तितम् – किं तया भ्रुवोः कर्तनं सुष्ठु कृतं स्यादिति। :)

Modern-day folks could take a lesson or two from ancient Sanskrit scholars on the art of complimenting. Today, I came across the word “PakshmaladRk,” which translates to “one with beautiful eyelashes.”

This exquisite term is traditionally used to describe a beautiful woman. How lovely both the word and the woman it signifies are!

I’ve also heard the term “SubruH,” meaning one with beautiful brows. When I was younger, I used to wonder if it was all about good eyebrow grooming :)

So, there you have it! It’s clear that beautiful eyebrows and eyelashes were highly prized in ancient times!
