Alright, as many of you know, I usually share posts with a bit of insight or at least something vaguely meaningful. I sift through a lot—articles, essays, random one-liners—and only pick what sticks.

Then I stumbled across this gem in an old magazine: a verse about a foolish king. That’s it. No wisdom, no life lesson—just premium-grade stupidity in poetic form. Honestly, I couldn’t decide what was more shocking: how foolish the king was, or the fact that someone thought this was worth publishing.

At first, I kept trying to decode some hidden message, wondering if I was missing something. Turns out, I wasn’t. It’s just a hilariously exaggerated take on how badly things can go under clueless leadership.

It made it to print once, so hey, might as well give it a second life here—if only for the laugh.

So, here we go!

मूर्खे राजनि दुर्नयात्पुरवरात् आखुं निहन्तुं गतस्सर्पस्तन्महिषीं ददंश सचिवः तस्यश्शिरोप्यच्छिनत्।

दृष्टं सर्पवरं निहत्य भवनं दग्ध्वा पुरीं सर्वतः शान्त्यै तोयतटं विभज्य कलमच्छायां करोति द्रुमे।।

Explanation – कश्चिन्मूर्खः राजा आसीत्, तस्य मूर्खः सचिवः। जातुचित् आखुः कश्चित् प्रासादं प्राविशत् यमनुसृत्य सर्पः कश्चिदपि आगतः। सर्पः राज्ञीम् अदशत्। इदं वीक्ष्य सचिवः राजानं वदति – राज्ञ्याः शिरश्छेदनं कुर्मः यस्मात् विषः शिरःपर्यन्तं न याति। अनन्तरं कथञ्चित् शिरः योजयामः इति। पश्चात् सर्पः कुत्रापि न लक्षितः यस्माद् भीतौ राजसचिवौ प्रासादः दहनीयः इति चिन्तयित्वा दहतः। अधुना सम्पूर्णं नगरं दहति यस्मात् निवारणाय जलावरणं विभङ्क्तः। पुनः नगरस्य नाशः एव अभूत्। ये केचन एतस्याः आपदः मुक्ताः किञ्चित्कालानन्तरम् आतपकारणात् कलमस्य नाशः भवेदतः पुनः जलावरणं निर्मीयतामिति राजानं प्रार्थितवन्तः। राजा तदर्थं द्रुमस्य पर्णेभ्यः छायां निर्माति।
