I’ve been meaning to post for a while, but most of my recent reading (or struggling) has revolved around AI, large language models, vectorDB, Python and data science. Because of this, I haven’t been able to devote as much time to Sanskrit as I would have liked.
However, this evening I took some time to watch the animated movie Mahavatar Narasimha, and wow — I finally found a topic I’m excited to write about! One section of my blog is dedicated to movie reviews, which I haven’t touched in quite some time. So, consider this my comeback review—or as they say in Tamil, “one stone two mangoes.”
My kuladevata (family deity) is Malola, and this story is something I heard every day growing up. I’ve watched Bhakta Prahlada and recited Malola slokas countless times, yet the story never gets old. You can hear it again and again—this is the beauty of Malola, the majestic Lion God.
This film was truly impressive. I got goosebumps watching it. Both the Varahavatara and Nrsimhavatara episodes were exceptional. Naturally, there was some dramatization, as with any film, but the story remained focused and didn’t stray off course. Overall, it was an evening well spent.
It seems we can look forward to many more movies like this. The next installment, Parasurama, was mentioned in the credits — and I can’t wait!

आहत्य सायं तु सुष्ठु यापितम्। अयं मालोलः नः पातु इति समाप्यते।
