Interestingly, my most significant influences have often been books rather than individuals. My teachers frequently found themselves at their wits’ end with me. However, to directly address the question, my parents have been the cornerstone of who I’ve become. It’s common for children to mirror the influences of their parents, and I’m certainly no exception. My parents never reprimanded me for scoring lower marks or skipping classes. Their unwavering support instilled in me a profound sense of confidence as I grew up!
A revered Sanskrit adage encapsulates this sentiment perfectly: नास्ति मातृसमो देवः नास्ति तातसमो गुरुः। तयोः प्रत्युपकारो हि न कथञ्चन विद्यते॥ (nAsti mAtRRisamo devaH nAsti tAtasamo guruH| tayoH pratyupakAro hi na katha~nchana vidyate||)- “There is no deity akin to one’s mother, no teacher comparable to one’s father. No deed can ever truly repay them for their contributions to our lives.” This profound statement highlights the unparalleled role of parents, not just as caregivers, but as the ultimate teachers and guides through life’s journey.
