Daily writing prompt
What animals make the best/worst pets?

This question might not quite hit the mark with me. Pets and I don’t mix well; I’ve never had any, unless you consider cows as pets! So, allow me to share my experiences with rearing cows and discuss which animal I’d truly like to have as a pet, though it might be strange to others.

As a child, my home was graced with cows, considered family members in my culture. The joy of being around calves was unparalleled, though I confess I never ventured into milking them. My contributions were limited to assisting in their baths and preparing their feed. However, I really would love horses as pets, even though it’s not very common?

Frankly, I do not know much about horses, nor have I ever been on a horse’s back, though I am aware that horsepower is a unit of measurement for power. My love for horses is deeply rooted in the rich narratives of Sanskrit and Tamil literature. The legendary King Nala, adept in the art of Ashvahridaya (Horsemanship), possessed the ability to communicate with and control horses with remarkable finesse. Disguised as a charioteer, King Nala took on the daunting challenge of ensuring that Ayodhya’s King Rituparna reached Vidarbha (from Ayodhya) in just one night—a journey of considerable distance. He carefully selected his horses for this adventure. The Mahabharata, an epic, describes how Nala’s chariot appeared to soar through the skies rather than merely tread upon the earth. This story has made a lasting impression on me.

Also, how can we forget the horse-faced Lord, Hayavadana, who is the Lord of Knowledge. so, horses it is for me!
