Oh, there are so many characters that I adore, especially with the vast expanse of literature at our disposal. My focus is mainly on female characters, as there were numerous courageous women in ancient times who serve as an inspiration for this generation. Currently immersed in ‘Subhadra Parinaya’, from the epic Mahabharata, I find myself captivated by the tale of Princess Subhadra. Sister to Krishna and Balarama, she carves her own path in love, choosing the valiant warrior Arjuna. In a bold move, as advised by her brother Krishna, Subhadra abducts Arjuna, the renowned archer, in her chariot and marries him (though some versions do say Arjuna is the one to abduct her).
What draws me to Subhadra is her steadfast boldness and her determination to pursue what she desires, especially in pursuing the right choice. Encountering a female character portrayed with such strength and intelligence is refreshing, standing in stark contrast to the often fragile and naive leads.
In the world of movies, although I don’t watch many, I really liked Christopher Nolan’s Catwoman, Selina Kyle, from ‘The Dark Knight Rises.’
