Diamonds: A Woman’s Best Friend

I recently came across a fascinating verse about diamonds in an article. While we are all familiar with gemology, Sanskrit boasts “Ratnashastra,” a specialized field focusing on gemstones, with diamonds holding a particularly esteemed position. The deity associated with diamonds is Venus, also known as Shukra.

The verse clearly states that wearing diamonds pleases Venus, the Goddess of Love in Greek mythology. Diamonds should ideally resemble a nonagonal prism (I must admit, I’m translating this to the best of my knowledge). They shine with the brilliance of Lord Hari’s chin, which I believe refers to Lord Venkatesha, whose chin is adorned with white camphor. This comparison makes sense to me.

Diamonds, with their shimmering and glittering qualities, bring auspiciousness to those who wear them. No wonder we women are so enamored with diamonds! 😊
